January Meeting Report

Our January meeting was again a roaring success, we welcomed more new members and more new guests - it was a good job we moved to the Museum and next month we'll be switching things around a little with drinks in the gallery and the main meeting being held in the courtyard so everyone has enough room…

This month's meeting was action packed as usual! We started with the business and announced plans for a pamper evening at Weston College, a trip to the Country Living Spring Fair, and an outing to the Bristol Hippodrome for Calendar Girls… if you want details of any of these, email or tweet and we'll let you know details. There are only a couple of spaces left for the pamper evening and tickets are being ordered for Calendar Girls - so be quick!

We are planning a couple of other trips this year so if there is an exhibition or event that you'd like to go to, let one of the committee know and we'll add it to the list of possible options.

We also announced the launch of the Book Club which is all set for its first meeting (perhaps we'll have a book report on future blog posts??) and circulated a sign up sheet for the craft club.

Following on from business we had our usual 30 minute make and this month, lovely Fran gave us a demonstration of how to make beauty treatments from the contents of your kitchen cupboard in a bid for bargain-basement beautification (its January after all, and we're in a recession!).. I was lucky enough to be the subject of beautification and I can confirm that the chocolate and honey facemask was delicious Oops, I mean very effective at restoring my complexion to its pre-Christmas, healthy glow.

Having had a nice lie-down I was super-ready for our guest speaker; Danielle Collins (, Facial Yoga Expert Extraordinaire! Danielle gave us a fascinating talk and a brilliant demonstration/contort-a-long which left our faces aching from laughing but taughter, firmer and younger looking. It was incredibly relaxing as we learned facial massage and acupressure techniques to relieve the everyday stresses that our eyes and faces (and even other bits of your body associated with acupressure points in your face) undergo every day.

Special thanks to our cake-rota ladies who provided some delicious cakey-goodness and also to the staff at the Museum who are always a great help!

Don't forget next months meeting is on the 21st February and we're being treated to a delicious edible demo from the super talented Amy, chef-proprietor at Oak and Glass ( I am definitely looking forward to it!

Upcoming meeting - Tuesday 17 Jan 2012!

For our first meeting of 2012 the Monthly Make is going to be hosted by Fran who will be demonstrating some DIY beauty solutions and this months guest speaker is Danielle Collins who is an expert in Facial Yoga and is going to show us how to keep our faces youthful without the need for drastic surgical procedures. Her website is and she will be giving us a talk and demonstration and there will be an opportunity to buy her DVDs and Charts so you can continue your practice at home.

Gift Swap: We'll also be having the unwanted gift swap - so bring your unwanted presents and swap them for someone else's unwanted wonders.

Book Club: Marianne is co-ordinating the Book Club and there will be a sign up sheet for anyone interested.

And the usual tea, coffee, cakes and raffle!
For those of you that didn't make it along to last months meeting - the venue was a HUGE improvement on the Blakehay - we had bags of space, plenty of chairs and we were in no danger of overheating!! The only niggle that we have is with parking, which is very limited. There are parking spaces on the side streets near the Museum and also on the Boulevard, most of these are all free if you are lucky enough to get one, otherwise there are a number of pay and display car parks within a 10 minute walk. Here is a link to the museum directions page;

If you have a blue-badge, there is a disabled parking space directly outside of the museum and if you're on public transport its a little closer to the train station...

Have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing you all.
