September 2013 WOW WI Meeting Report

On the catering team this month were Lucy Adams, Christine McEneaney and Gail Willis who provided tea and bread and butter to accompany the lovely fish and chips.

We have recently run very successful trips to the Magistrates' Court and Highgrove Gardens.  We considered a visit to Adam's Farm but there was not enough interest from members to make this feasible.  We are always open to suggestions for future trips, so let us know your ideas.

The National WI Federation is running a petition to charge 5p for plastic carrier bags and reduce their use, following the example set by Wales.  The petition was available to be signed by our members.

We also displayed information from the Avon Federation who are running trips to the Stitch and Sew exhibition in Exeter, a Dickensian Evening and a Carol Service amongst others, as well as national events such as the WI AGM.

Members will be pleased to hear that some of their suggestions have been implemented for future meetings.  We have booked a Zumba demonstration for November's meeting, and will have volunteers from the local food bank in attendance in October.  Unfortunately the London Moonwalk is very difficult to book as a large group, but if members want to get together and represent WOW-WI, that would no doubt be great fun!

Next month is our AGM so please put your name forward if you would like to join the committee and have a say in how WOW-WI is run.  It's important that the committee continues to evolve and take on board new perspectives and ideas.  It doesn't involve a great deal of commitment and anyone on the existing committee will be happy to talk it through with you.

Next month we are operating a teddy-dressing competition with the results being sold at our Christmas Fayre in December.  We have a big bag of teddies available or you could bring your own along.

The evening's entertainment was provided by Murder by Design, a local theatre company operated by one of the committee member's husbands.  Unfortunately we were unable to take any photos but everyone had great fun trying to work out whodunnit, participating in the show and having a good giggle at the very funny players.
