Latest Book Club review......

‘We Are All Called To Rise’ is a debut novel by Nevada Community College teacher Lara McBride. A novel based on redemption set in  LasVegas, it is the story of four completely different and incomparable lives; a social worker, an immigrant boy, a U. S. A. solider back from  Afghanistan and a suburban housewife who all become linked by a sudden decision each have made. Slow to start as the reader is introduced to the characters however, the pace is upped as the connection between them is established. The book becomes compelling and extremely emotional in parts.
Another ‘up until midnight’, hugely enjoyed by all W. I. Book Clubbers.

Look out for our next review of "the Girl on The Train" by Paula Hawkins.

Well, what  a fab day out we had at Frome Independant Market on Sunday - thankfully in sunshine! A post to follow about it!

Next meeting this Tuesday 16th - unfortunately Mandi Gair has had to cancel at short notice, so no chocolate making...but...Nicke Vall has stepped in at the last minute and will be helping us make a topiary shaped floral decoration!
Nicke will provide a base pot and oasis, a stick and an Oasis ball to make a round  display. These items will be at a cost of £4 per person and members are asked to bring along their own foliage, flowers and any other decorations that can be stuck into a round oasis ball. As well as a pair of scissors or secateurs.

WI Centenary Afternoon Tea.
To celebrate 100 years of WI we have arranged Afternoon Tea at Oak & Glass Restaurant in Uphill on Saturday 15th August. Therefore each member can have a fabulous full Afternoon Tea - sandwiches, scones, cakes and biscuits with unlimited tea or coffee  -for just £8 per person!! ( if you wish to have a glass of fizz this will be payable on an individual basis). Sign up and pay £8 next week or at the July meeting latest.

July meeting - will be a Treasure Hunt around Weston with a prizes for the group that finishes first ! More details at next weeks meeting and to follow by email.

Our Autumn programme is looking good with a talk from  Michael Eavis of Glastonbury Festival, Big Prize Bingo, Christmas craft making and more to be confirmed!
Don't forget - you can always bring along a friend,  neighbour or family member as a Guest to see what WOW WI is all about!

We love Guide Dogs

For the May meeting we had some super visitors - Adele and Orla who brought Claire with them. Adele is a German Shepherd puppy in training to go to 'Big Guide Dog School' and Orla is a retired dog.
Claire

Claire Mahoney is a puppy dog walker for Guide Dogs and Adele is her 17th puppy!
Claire told us about the training Orla and the other puppies have to do with her. She also brought some glasses that replicate some of the visual impairments people may have who have a Guide Dog.

Orla and Adele
Orla, Adele and Claire were beautifully behaved and went home with dozens of teddies that the lovely ladies of WoWWI brought with them for Guide Dogs to use in their tombolas.
Just some of our teddies!
We finished with a very lively debate from Susan and Helen about this year's national resolution - Failing to Care, after which the members voted. If you want to read more about the resolution , it's all on p24 Of WI Life Magazine, April edition.
